ABOUT

This music video was inspired by the analog effects of the Talking Heads Once In a Lifetime and Beck’s Once In A Lifetime. The aim was to combine this style with elements of vaporwave in a dystopian, tech driven future. I was approached to do graphics for this environment, specifically “billboards” advertising services and products that felt at home in this world. I took inspiration from billboards I spotted around LA as well as ads targeted to me on podcasts and Instagram.

 

Some of the most common seemed to be healthcare, travel, dating apps and  travel rewards credit cards. I took these concepts, and tried to imagine how they would exist in the most pessimistic version of the future that amplifies our current issues (climate change, access to natural resources, technology causing social isolation, etc). I envisioned these billboards in an overly-populated city on brightly lit screens fighting for attention so I aimed for hyper saturated, punchy visuals.
